ixigo, a homegrown travel and hotel booking e-commerce platform, has added a ‘Offline mode’ function to its Trains app for Android users. Users will be able to look for information regarding travel routes, railway stops, and schedules even while they are offline thanks to the new feature.

The decision was made in light of the frequent inconvenience of connection issues that users suffer while trying to use the internet, which is exacerbated even more during a train travel. The Ixigo Trains app will allow users to watch trains between stations, set station alerts, check live train running status, get booking reminders, and search for train routes even if they do not have access to the internet or are in a low network zone.

Travelers will never have to worry about following their train whereabouts again, thanks to the Live Running Status feature’s offline availability.

Commenting on the latest launch, ixigo CTO & Co-founder, Rajnish Kumar said “Network issues during train travel restrict the accessibility of accurate information, which is a common pain point for travelers. Our intent was to provide a simplistic solution to this issue. It was a big challenge to keep the app light by compressing an additional 100MB offline train data, within the 10MB size of the app. The offline mode will provide millions of Indian train travelers the desired train information, with or without an internet connection.”

This isn’t the first time the corporation has introduced new functionality like this. In 2016, ixigo debuted offline and non-GPS taxi booking on its cabs app, focusing on airports, train stations, and bus terminals. Users may then use the Ixigo taxi app to book rides from Uber, Ola, EasyCabs, and Jugnoo.

Launched in 2007, ixigo is one of India’s leading travel marketplace, which allows travelers to compare and book from 120+ travel suppliers and OTAs across flights, hotels, trains, cabs & destinations. The company currently serves more than 20 million monthly active users and manages 4 million trips every month with a user base of 100 million travelers on its platform.
